La Sardina Loca x From Experience - Mental Health in the Hospitality Industry

We talk about wanting to be better with our own mental health and to find ways to support others, but how can we do this in a practical and tangible way?

The amazing crew from La Sardina Loca are very kindly donating $2 from every Negroni sold during “Negroni Week” from the 12th - 18th September to From Experience to fund a session for the hospitality community to discuss ways to support our team’s mental health, but also our own.

Like the safety demonstration on an aeroplane - we’re told to put on our oxygen mask on first in an emergency BEFORE we help others. This is applicable to us in everyday life, we must be in the right space ourselves to be able to provide support and compassion to others
— Bianca Welsh, Founder

So how do we do that? Be in the right space ourselves? A lot is in understanding of our own brain - that is our emotions, personality, beliefs, biases, experiences, relationships - with ourselves and others and then our understanding of empathy and compassion. What information would help us to provide comfort and support to those in need.

I can promise you this - it’s not as complicated as you think! It doesn’t have to be as daunting as you think. The stats that are rolling out pre and post pandemic are not good. The recent National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing found over 2 in 5 Australian’s will experience a mental health disorder in their lifetime, with 1 in 5 experiencing a mental disorder in the last 12 months. A recent National Women’s Health Survey of 14,000 women from diverse backgrounds found half of the participants had a decline in their physical and mental health since the pandemic. We could talk all day about how the statistics, but it really comes down to the real stories, the real experiences of people we know and love and care about.

If you can, and you love a Negroni, please support La Sardina Loca (100 Elizabeth St., Hobart) and grab a Negroni and a delicious snack while you’re there.

If you’d like to know more about the session with From Experience in the future - please email you interest here and mention the LDL Mental Health Session.

Thank you!
